For those members unable to be at the weigh-in this year, the results in reverse order are now detailed below. ‘Judge Doug’ officiated the day and was armed with two sets of scales plus an IKEA maxi blue bag and stated that “although entries were fewer than were hoped, the quality of the produce was exceptional”.
In 3rd place was Holly Godfrey who had grown a perfectly formed and bright orange pumpkin in a well-cared for environment – 4kgs and still growing !! Weighed in situ.
In 2nd Joint places after 3 weighing’s on each pumpkin to verify the weight at 11kgs each were our junior member Joshua on raised bed B and senior member Eileen Blythe on Plot 3a (weighed in situ)
1st Place and overall winner with a pumpkin presented in a wheelbarrow due to its whopping size and a perfect example of a pumpkin was Alan Courts specimen example of 30.75kg
Notes. Judge Doug admitted that he had made a valiant attempt to grow a pumpkin that actually looked like butternut squash !! and only to devoured by rot resulting in a squishy mess some weeks ago. Better luck next year Doug!……….And Alan very well done indeed but just a little way to go to beat a previous champion ! Good luck to you all in next years competition.
