Open Day 2017 – Results and Pictures

On Sunday, we held our annual Open Day and we welcomed some lovely people who were very interested in our allotments and how we do it. We had visitors from other allotments sites in Shepway as well as local people and our good friends and supporters from the Local Authority, Susan Carey the Member for Elham & District, KCC and John Heasman, the Mayor of Hawkinge and his wife Patricia were there.

We also announced the winners of the Best Plot Competitions and presented them with their prizes, certificates and trophies.

Our thanks to our judges Ray and Tricia (both ex-plot-holders) for giving their time.

Pictures of the day can be found here…

The Best Shed competition proved to be a very popular diversion particularly by the children and was won by Plot 24, pictures on the above link.

The Plant sales run by our President, Eileen raised valuable funds and the refreshments supplied by members and served by Dawn, Miriam, Christine and Sylvia raised even more money. Our thanks must also go to the many helpers we had in the morning and evening erecting and clearing away gazebos etc, notably Brian, Geoff, Tony and Doug.

A great team effort and good weather made it all very successful.’

  1. Wow, what a pleasant surprise to discover that I was 1st place for Best Half Plot! I am flattered that the judges have considered my half plot to be the winner. My plot has never been about competition, it is simply something that I get great pleasure from working on. Apologies for being unable to attend on the open day, other commitments had to take priority unfortunately.
I can honestly say that I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the allotment so far and I have met the nicest bunch of welcoming people at this site, for that I am extremely grateful.
    Many Thanks, Nathan (Plot 23)
