Eileen Blythe stands down as Chairwoman after bringing her glorious reign to an end.

The chairman of Hawkinge Allotment Society stood down last month after an eight-year reign. Eileen Blythe,72, set up the group when she moved to the area from Herefordshire and found her garden too small to grow fresh fruit and vegetables. An area of land was eventually secured near Stombers Lane in 2008, since when more than 60 people have taken on plots.

At the group’s AGM in January , Mrs Blyhte stood down as chairman but was voted in as honorary president.  New Chairman Ray Ashdown said “From the start , Eileen was instrumental in the formation of the society and sorting out the allotments in Stombers Lane. ” She was very forceful in making it happen and today there are 64 members of the very friendly group”

Mrs Blythe said I’d like to thank you everyone for their efforts , which keeps our site so tidy and clean and all the effort it took to find and develop the site very worthwhile.”
